10 tips to get you through summer concert season

Alissa Burnette, Staff Reporter

As concert season is almost upon us, I thought it would be fitting to share some of my concert tips that I have gathered from past concerts. As far as concerts I’ve attended goes, I have been to two One Direction concerts and one Five Seconds of Summer concert, and I will be attending another 5SOS concert on July 8 again this summer.

1. Stay hydrated.

If the concert is in the summer and it’s outdoors, you’ll definitely want to make sure you’re keeping yourself hydrated throughout the day. Also, if you like to scream and sing loudly like I do, you’ll want to be drinking lots of water so your throat doesn’t get dry. If the venue allows water, I would highly recommend bringing a bottle or two.

2. Memorize lyrics.

If you show up to the concert and don’t even know the songs or the artist, why did you buy tickets in the first place? Try to do some research beforehand and find out the setlist, or what songs they’re performing and memorize every lyric. You’ll be able to sing along and bop to your favorite jams all night long.

3. Have fun.

This tip is pretty self-explanatory, but chances are you paid quite a bit for these tickets so you’re going to want to get your money’s worth. Bring along friends that you know will be fun to go with, and don’t care what anyone thinks if you’re dancing and singing crazily.

4. Don’t take videos the whole time.

You can always watch videos at home of the artist performing, but you rarely get to watch them perform right in front of you. When I go back and watch the videos I’ve taken from a concert, I cringe because of my singing in the background and shaking of the camera. Take a few pictures and videos here and there, but savor the small amount of time you get to enjoy their music and see them perform in real life.

5. Bring a portable charger.

Chances are your phone is going to die multiple times throughout the day, so a portable charger is very useful for keeping your phone alive.

6. Fanny packs or small purses.

I wouldn’t recommend bringing anything more than you need to a concert, because big purses are a hassle to carry around all day. Small purses are always convenient and cute, and if you want an even more convenient way to carry your belongings, there’s also fanny packs. Some may say these are ugly, and only dads from the 80’s wear them, but I’ve noticed these are coming back into style, and there’s so many cute options to choose from.

7. Waterproof mascara.

If you want to wear mascara, I would wear waterproof, because you might cry (I am always sobbing when One Direction pops out on stage). For makeup in general, I would keep it light because you’re probably going to sweat throughout the concert if it’s hot out.

8. Wear a comfortable outfit.

It’s hard to dance around and have fun if your outfit is uncomfortable. Also, don’t wear high heels because you’ll probably be standing the whole concert and high heels are going to make your feet hurt. I would recommend an outfit that is cute and comfy, so maybe a flowy tank top to get some wind circulation if it’s hot, shorts, and some converse or vans.

9. Make sure you have enough storage space on your phone.

The last thing you want to happen midway through the concert is for your storage to run out. Delete apps you don’t use and pictures before the concert so you’ll eliminate the possibility of running out of storage on your phone.

10. Eat before the concert.

It will be more difficult to enjoy yourself during the concert if you are starving to death. Sometimes it’s easy to forget to eat throughout the day when you’re too excited, but you need to be energized for the concert. Also, use the bathroom before the concert so you don’t have to exit the hectic crowds to go to the bathroom during the concert.
