Freshmen boys basketball defeat John Handley in first home game

The freshman boys basketball team took on John Handley for their first home game of the season on Nov. 29. Both the freshman boys team and the JV boys team pulled out a win, with the freshmen team winning 64-24 and the JV team winning 45-43. Freshman Eli Pinedo felt confident before going into the freshman game.

“[Before the game,] I felt pumped and ready. I felt like I was going to have a good game,” Pinedo said.

Pinedo played small forward and power forward during the game. He scored 7 points.

“I think I played well, but I had a couple missed shots. I made a three-pointer,” Pinedo said.

According to Pinedo, the freshmen boys know how to work very well together as a team.

“We passed the ball, shared the ball and got steals on defense,” Pinedo said.

Freshman Jesse Lichti’s position was small forward and shooting guard. He felt prepared and ready to play before the game started.

“I felt good. I’ve been playing a lot, so I feel like I’ve improved. I was ready to start actually playing a game,” Lichti said.

Lichti was the top scorer on the team, tallying 15 points total.

“I feel like I played pretty well. I scored a lot and I shot really well. I just feel like I played well all around. On two or three possessions, I went down and hit two threes. It was pretty nice,” Lichti said.

After this game, many of the freshmen will transition to playing on the JV team. Lichti is looking forward to making the change.

“I think I can make the transition because I’ve played with all of the people [before],” Lichti said. “I feel like we can definitely do really well, maybe even go undefeated.”

On the other hand, Pinedo thinks the JV team will be more challenging than playing on the freshmen team, but he is still confident about the rest of the season.

“I think that JV will be a little bit harder, but I think I’ll still play my same game I always do,” Pinedo said.

Both Lichti and Pinedo will be playing in the JV boys game this Tuesday at home. They will be taking on the Black Nights of Charlottesville at 6:00 PM and the boys varsity game will follow at 7:30.
