Streaks strike down Little Giants in face-off at Bridgeforth

Dusk descended on JMU’s Bridgeforth Stadium Saturday as the Blue Streaks faced off against the Waynesboro Little Giants.

The Streaks received the kickoff but fumbled on their first drive.

However, it wasn’t long before the Little Giants also fumbled, returning the ball to the Streaks. The first score came shortly after as junior running back Marcus Robinson-Jenkins ran for a 73-yard touchdown on third and 25.

Waynesboro answered with a touchdown by senior quarterback DaJuan Moore to tie the game at 7-7 headed into the second quarter.

To start the second quarter, Waynesboro senior running back Dequiondre Clark put up another touchdown on the Blue Streaks, lengthening Waynesboro’s lead to 7.

The game took a turn for the worse for the Streaks as HHS fumbled again shortly after the Waynesboro touchdown. The Harrisonburg defense held though, and Waynesboro was forced to punt.

The Streak’s next drive ended in a touchdown by senior AC White to tie the game.

The tied game was short-lived, however, as Waynesboro senior running back Delano Green Jr. answered with a touchdown.

White responded with another score shortly after. The Streaks then tried to go for the two point conversion but failed.

On their next drive, Robinson-Jenkins put the Blue Streaks in the red zone with a 67-yard rush. This left Harrisonburg in perfect position for White to run for his third touchdown. Again, the Streaks tried for two points, this time able to convert.

Robinson-Jenkins then ran for another touchdown to put the streaks up 35-21.

The Little Giants were able to answer with a score by junior running back Kazmaun Johnson, but it proved too little too late. Waynesboro tried for two points with a trick play, but were unable to convert.

In a last-ditch attempt to win the game, the Little Giants attempted an onside kick which also failed. The end score was 35-27 with the Blue Streaks as the winners.
