Ron Bowers

Q: Is this your first year at HHS?

A: This is my first year, yes.

Q: What college did you attend?

A: College? Didn’t go to college. I went into the military.

Q: When you were in school, what was your favorite subject and why?

A: My favorite subject was history. What I liked about history was what we’ve learned from the things from the past: what was good, what was bad, what worked and what didn’t work. That’s just what interested me, how even hundreds of years ago some of the things they did then are still in place today and still work today. I thought that was very interesting.

Q: When you were in high school, did you play any sports?
A: I did. Basketball for the first three years. I mainly played guard.

Q: When you were younger, what did you think you wanted to be when you grew up?
A: I had a lot of interest in flying. Like, flying airplanes and stuff like that. I never did that, but when I went into the military I worked on aircraft. Never got to the point of actually flying an aircraft, but I definitely got to the point of knowing a lot about them, so that was good.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A:  I like the outdoors, I love being in the outdoors, so anything to do with the outdoors: camping, I’m an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, hunter, stuff like that.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: I grew up in a little small town in West Virginia, about an hour from here. Sugar Grove, West Virginia.

Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters? Pets?

A: I have two older sisters. Two dogs, four cats and some fish.

Q: Is there anything else that you would like to add?

A: I know this is new to me, being a police officer in a school environment. The school I went to didn’t have school resource officers, it was a small school, so it was something that I had never even heard of. Working in this environment to me is different, but I would like to add that a police officer in a school environment should be a very positive role. Having good interactions with the students may influence them to think that police officers aren’t as bad as you think they are. So it’s just something else I would like to add. For the students not to be afraid to approach police officers and talk to them, we are normal people just like everyone else.
