Junior Constance Komara has been a part of Harrisonburg basketball for the last four years. She played JV as an eighth grader and varsity for her three years of high school. She lead the team in scoring with 12.2 ppg and rebounding with 5.3 per game. She has been involved in athletics since she was young.

“I got into the sport because my older brother and two sisters were playing [it] and my dad, who wanted all boys, said he would not let his girls not be athletes. My dad and mom gave me a chance to try every sport to find the one that fit me the most,” Komara said.

Her basketball career started around the age of six.

“I started playing basketball at a young age, probably around six when my dad coached my team,” Komara said.

Komara has been playing softball for almost as long as basketball.

“I’ve been playing softball since I was seven. My eighth grade year I played JV and I played varsity my freshman and sophomore years,” Komara said.

The girls varsity basketball team just finished up the season after losing in the conference quarterfinals to Woodgrove. They ended the year with a 6-11 record which was an improvement from last years 0-19 finish. Komara will now get ready for the upcoming softball season and getting ready for her senior year of basketball next year.

“I play travel softball and basketball year round which helps me be prepared to play for the school and as a team we have open gym every day in and out of season. We go to team camps, tournaments and also just hang out to build a better bond as a team,” Komara said.

She plans to put in more work in the weight room than past years.

“When the season ends, I want to work even harder for next season and try to work on things I struggled on and weight lift more,” Komara said.

Komara wants to reach a scoring milestone and increase the team’s wins in her final season at HHS.

“For my senior year I would like to hopefully score 1000 points and as a team I hope to have more wins than the past years,” Komara said.

She is hoping to continue her basketball career at the next level after high school.

“I plan on playing basketball in college,” Komara said.
