Senior Meagan Roberts is starting her fourth year on the HHS varsity gymnastics team. Roberts was on the JV gymnastics team in 8th grade and took classes at Skyline Gymnastics from head gymnastics Coach, Michael King.

“I like practicing on beam the most, but competing beam isn’t as fun. I like competing floor, it sounds stupid, but I like them all a lot. I like practice too because I get to see all of my friends and we get to joke around and we all have the common goal of getting something done,” Roberts said.

But practice pays off when it’s time to compete.

“I love competing, you get a lot of support from your teammates while you’re performing. Take beam for example, I can hear them from the side shouting and cheering stuff like “Good Meagan!” “Pretty Meagan!” “Nice Meagan,” Roberts said.

Since starting gymnastics, Roberts considers her proudest accomplishment getting to go to regionals twice out of the three years she’s been at HHS so far.

“I’d love to make it to regionals again this year, and maybe get my back handspring on beam too,” Roberts said.

As well as being on the varsity gymnastics team, Roberts also competed on the varsity competition cheer team, where the team placed second at Conference and advanced to regionals.

“I like gymnastics more than cheer, but I don’t know if I want to do gymnastic or cheer in college. I’ll probably end up doing gymnastics just to stay in shape,” Roberts said.

As well as doing gymnastics, Roberts sends her compliments to Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson, the silver and gold medal winners from the 2008 Olympics.
