Club day offers opportunities

Club day is an opportunity for students to be active in some of the many clubs HHS offers. Junior Doyle Dick appreciates club days because it gives him the chance to learn more about the things he is interested in.

Envirothon is essentially a nature club where participants learn about wildlife, fishing and aquatics.

“Club day a couple years ago, I found Envirothon and I was like okay, I’m going to check this out,” Dick said.

Envirothon members take part in an annual contest throughout Virginia.

“We have a state-wide competition that we’re going to go to and we’re presenting our best management practice for a farm,” Dick said.

Sophomore Isaiah Vaughan participates in the Skiing and Snowboarding club.

“I started it because I wanted to learn more about skiing and snowboarding and I wanted to be able to go with the school to some of the field trips we were talking about, like going to Snowshoe,” Vaughan said.

Vaughan stays in the club for many reasons.

“I like it because I get to learn other styles of riders because there’s not that many good people up at Massanutten,” Vaughan said.

Vaughan values club days because they give him free time in between a busy school day.

“I like clubs because it gives me a break between classes and I also get to hang out with friends and I talk to other people that snowboard. It’s a lot of fun,” Vaughan said.

There are countless other clubs that students can take part in.
