Last night, the varsity girl’s volleyball team faced the Knights of Turner Ashby. While they were unable to pull away with the win, The Streaks kept with The Knights every set. During the first set, sophomore Becky Staton was able to come away with several blocks as well as several kills. She felt proud of the team’s performance.

“As a team, we played really good together, we talked a lot and came together as a team. Individually, I think I played pretty good tonight,” Staton said. Although Staton felt like they played well, she felt like they can improve in certain situations. They lost 18-25.

“We could improve on staying positive, talking and not getting in our heads,” Staton said. The Streaks went on to lose the next two sets 13-25 and 16-25. Libero and senior, Athena Benton, started and played most of the game. She was also proud of last night’s performance.

“We were energetic, especially because we played TA. My own playing was alright but I could always improve. We also could get some more consistency within the game. We also have a lot of ways of getting down and not a lot of ways of getting up,” Benton said.

Both Staton and Benton have enjoyed the season so far and feel like the team as potential.

“The season is going really well though and it has been fun. Just the team in general is fun. Nobody is always down and negative, everyone has a positive attitude,” Staton said. Benton believes that along with the good attitude, must come determination.

“Overall the season has been really good and the content of the games have been really good but our record isn’t showing that so we need to pull that up,” Benton said.

The varsity volleyball team has now fell to 1-9 on the season and face the Indians of Fort Defiance High School on Wednesday, Sep. 28th.
