Harrisonburg’s varsity boys soccer defeated Millbrook High School 1-0 in the Conference 21 West semifinals on Tuesday, May 24. The game took place at the JMU turf field due to poor field conditions at Harrisonburg, and was a makeup of Monday night’s postponement.

The game was scoreless for more than half of the contest, until freshman forward Carlos Pacheco scored at 53:05 of the second half. Sophomore midfielder Sajjad Imran assisted the goal, and the one tally ended up being enough as the Streaks held the lead the rest of the way. Harrisonburg totaled 16 shots on goal, compared to just 7 for the Pioneers. Harrisonburg goalie Jose Saavedra made 4 saves and Millbrook goalie Dylan Frederick stopped 11 shots. Harrisonburg improved to 12-4-1 with the victory, and advanced to take on John Handley in the conference finals on Wednesday night. The win also qualified the Streaks for the 4A West regional tournament, regardless of the outcome in the finals. Millbrook’s loss dropped their record to 10-5-3, and concluded their season.
