It’s a common thing for a teenager to check up on their social media every hour of the day or after waking up every morning. Teens today use social media as a way to connect with others and see what’s going on in the real world. What some people don’t know is that social media can have a huge effect on someone. The everyday media can bring someone up, but it also can bring someone down, which can easily trigger insecurities.
Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. are all different types of social media that are used to communicate or share things with others over the internet. Everyday, people use Instagram and Snapchat as a way to post or send pictures. Twitter is used to post tweets and see what’s going on with others. These social medias have a way of affecting others whether it’s good or bad. Many teenagers today struggle with feeling insecure from social media.
Some teenagers feel the need to get a ton of likes on a tweet or a great amount of comments over an Instagram picture. People want to gain attention and feel popular. Yes, that is a great feeling but there is much more out there than the internet.
“I wish I could look like her,” the girl said after scrolling down Instagram.
“Why can’t I be as athletic as he is?” the guy said after viewing a Snapchat story.
Not everybody feels insecure after seeing something on social media, but it is a common feeling that anyone could have.
Social media can only do so much to a person. It consumes a person’s mind to think differently and not in their own way. Many people out there are very confident, which is what everyone should be. You don’t have to get 100 likes on a picture to be popular, when being yourself is the best that you can be. Everyone is different and social media shouldn’t be the way to gain attention.
No one should feel like they have to look a certain way or be someone else. Everyone is
worth more than just a picture on Instagram or a tweet from twitter.
Feeling insecure has come to everyone’s mind before. People should always remember that everyone is different, and they should be themselves.
“Insecurity kills all that is beautiful,” American singer Demi Lovato said.
This quote from Lovato is another way to remind us that we shouldn’t let insecurities get the best of us.
