I ask myself very often what life would be like without internet and social media. There are many pros and cons to not having electronics in your life. Imagine if there were no smartphones, iPods, iPads, Kindles, laptops, computers, X-Boxes, or Playstations. I think that it’s safe to say that some people would be bored out of their minds without some of this, but life would be a lot simpler.

I can’t help but wonder why social media was even invented because it really doesn’t do anything for me except let people know about my business and make me curious. I can agree that it’s fun to get likes and comments on posts and pictures, but at the same time, how are those likes and pictures going to help you in the long run? I know people that have lost their jobs or haven’t gotten jobs due to things posted on their social media. The worst part of it all is once it’s there, you can’t get it off.

Social media can be very addicting if you don’t know when to get off. You always want to know if someone posted a picture with you or  posted about you. You get really tempted to look because you’re curious. It has come to my attention that some people use the internet for all of the wrong reasons. Social media isn’t supposed to be for making fun of someone and updating every single minute of your life. Also, you really shouldn’t post inappropriate things because anyone and everyone can see it.  If you go for a job interview and the first thing your employer does is look at your social media account, I’m sure that you don’t want them to see pictures of you doing something stupid.

The internet should not be used as only a source of entertainment. I think that the internet can be helpful for school, work, news, communication and shopping. The internet has helped people become billionaires, so I’m not saying that it is all bad. Having internet at school is the answer to my prayers; I use it for every assignment that requires knowledge that I don’t want to look up in my notes or book. It makes my life a lot simpler. It also beats having to go places and buy things when you can just hit a button to order them. The easy accessibility of the internet can be very helpful, but at the same time, people shouldn’t abuse this privilege.
