I recently discovered the complete wonder that is Taylor Swift’s new album, “1989”. The album was released on Oct. 27, 2014, therefore I am rather late to the party, but I am silently reprimanding myself for not getting into her stuff prior to now. Granted, her older material was totally different and much more adolescent if you ask me. My friend bought “1989” for me for Christmas, upon my request. I already knew I would like it if it sounded anything like her pre-released single, “Blank Space”, a masterpiece in the minds of thousands. I popped the CD into my car radio and soon electronic-style synthesizers were blaring.

“Welcome To New York” was new and exciting and the perfect pick for a first song. It was almost as if saying “Welcome to 1989, here’s what I’ve been working on for the past two years”. The album flowed beautifully. The first half was slightly more upbeat than the latter half. Of course, all of her songs are about relationships, but she is only 25. I believe that this is as good a time as any to relish in the fact that she is possibly the world’s most eligible bachelorette.

Held at gunpoint, I would say that “Bad Blood” is my favorite. It has rock influences while still staying within the pop genre. Honestly though, I cannot really pick a true favorite, because for the most part I was really impressed. It takes guts to come out as a completely different style of artist well into your career. To do it with so much ease is a feat within itself.

Days after my infatuation with the artist emerged, I found myself in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, just before Taylor was going to take the stage. I wanted to so badly to wait until eight p.m. to see her sing live, but the below freezing temperatures and lack of bathrooms outweighed my desire to stay. I heard that she romped around in basically a bikini top despite the cold like the true queen she is.

In my own words, I’d say that Taylor Swift has already slayed 2015, and this is just the beginning.
